Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy and comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who We Are

Vieta Space is operated by Liam Hawtin, Linköping, Sweden.

For GDPR purposes, we are the data controller of your personal data.

2. What We Collect

  • Account data: email, name, password (securely hashed)
  • Profile data: optional university and country information
  • Equations/content: math equations you create and store
  • Technical data: logs and error reports (via Sentry, EU region, with IP scrubbing enabled)
  • Device/storage: local browser storage for offline editing

We do not collect phone numbers or payment information at this time.

3. How We Use Your Data

We process your data for the following purposes and legal bases:

  • To provide the service (Art. 6(1)(b) – contract)
  • To secure and improve the service, including training prediction models and improving rendering (Art. 6(1)(f) – legitimate interests)
  • To comply with law (Art. 6(1)(c))

4. Where Data Is Stored

  • Hosting: Amazon Web Services (AWS, EU region)
  • Error Monitoring: Sentry (EU region, with IP anonymization)

We configure Sentry to minimize data collection (including IP scrubbing) and only use logs for error diagnosis. Your data is stored in the European Union and is not transferred outside the EU.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data. We only share data with trusted service providers (AWS, Sentry) acting as processors under GDPR, bound by Data Processing Agreements.

6. Retention

  • Account and equations are stored while your account is active
  • If you delete your account: data is deleted promptly, and backups are cycled out within a reasonable period (up to 90 days)
  • Error logs are kept only as long as needed for debugging and security

7. Your Rights

Under GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access your data
  • Correct inaccuracies
  • Request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
  • Export your data (data portability)
  • Object to processing for legitimate interests

8. Security

  • Passwords are stored using modern hashing algorithms
  • Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (via AWS defaults)
  • We take reasonable steps to protect against unauthorized access

9. Children

The service is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly allow users under 13 to create an account.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. If changes are significant, we will notify users by email or in-app notice.
